White Lion Head Playing Walnuts – Beginner Edition

(11)

~~$88.00~~ From $39.99

One-line Recommendation:
👉 The perfect first pair of playing walnuts for beginners – smooth in hand, colors up fast, and very rewarding.

🌟 Why White Lion Head is Perfect for Beginners

If you are new to Chinese playing walnuts, White Lion Head is one of the most recommended varieties. It is widely recognized as the most beginner-friendly choice for three main reasons:

1️⃣ Comfortable, rounded hand feel

White Lion Head walnuts feature a classic low-profile, round shape with thick edges and a full belly. They feel solid and smooth in the hand, not sharp or uncomfortable. Easy to rotate and rub, making them ideal for daily play.

2️⃣ Fast color development

Many beginners worry that their walnuts won’t change after months of use.
White Lion Head walnuts have excellent skin quality and respond well to regular handling. With normal play, the color gradually changes from light yellow to warm reddish tones within a few months, giving clear and satisfying progress.

3️⃣ Affordable and stress-free to start

Thanks to mature grafting techniques, this variety is stable in quality and reasonably priced. You can confidently start your walnut journey without worrying too much about minor bumps or learning mistakes.

🔍 How to Identify This Pair

Shape: Round, compact, and full – classic “chubby” lion head style
Top: Distinct cross-shaped seam, a signature feature of White Lion Head
Texture: Bold, strong lines with moderate depth – easy to clean and maintain
Base: Wide and flat, able to stand steadily on a table

📦 What We Prepare for You

We understand beginners’ concerns, so each pair is carefully selected and prepared:

Pre-cleaned & ready to play:
The walnuts have been properly cleaned and surface-prepared (basic prep done).
No wax or artificial coating is applied. You can start playing with them right out of the box.
No major defects:
Each walnut is individually inspected to avoid cracks, insect holes (holes caused by wood-boring insects), yellow tips, or structural damage.
Well-matched pair:
The two walnuts are closely matched in size, shape, and texture, ensuring balanced handling and a better playing experience.
Beginner-friendly size:
Approx. 38–42mm in diameter, the ideal size for beginners and suitable for most hand sizes.

🛡️ Beginner Care Guide – 3 Do & 3 Don’ts

✅ DO

Play with clean hands: Wash your hands before playing to keep oils and dirt out of the texture
Brush often: Use an appropriate brush in the early stage to remove dust and help develop an even patina
Be patient: Playing walnuts is about time, consistency, and enjoyment

❌ DON’T

Avoid sudden temperature changes (very important):
Do not place near heaters, radiators, or air-conditioning vents.
Do not play immediately after bringing them from cold outdoors into a warm room. Sudden temperature changes may cause cracking.
Avoid water exposure:
Walnuts expand when wet and shrink when dry, which can lead to cracks. If accidentally wet, wipe dry immediately and air-dry naturally for several days.
Avoid dropping:
Walnuts are wood-based and may chip or crack if dropped on hard surfaces.

✨ Final Words

This pair of White Lion Head playing walnuts is a reliable companion for your beginner journey. Easy to handle, quick to change, and full of character, it allows you to truly experience the charm of traditional walnut playing.

Start from your palm, and let time create its story.

Warm Tip:
After receiving your walnuts, let them rest in a cool, dry indoor place for about half a day to adapt to your local environment before playing. This helps reduce the risk of cracking.

Why Does Maitreya Buddha Always Laugh：Everything You Need to Know

Table of Contents The Future Buddha: Maitreya, the Next Enlightened One The Historical Origin of the Laughing Maitreya: The Cloth Bag Monk A Lesson in Joyful Generosity The Transformation of a Monk into a Buddha Image Why Does Maitreya Always Smile? Smiling as a Practice, Joy as a Way of Life A Smiling Gatekeeper: The First Step in Cultivation Final Thoughts Introduction Why is Maitreya Buddha always smiling? More than a cheerful figure with a big belly, his joyful smile carries deep meaning. Behind it lies a story of kindness, wisdom, and the practice of joyful giving. Let’s explore the truth behind the Laughing Buddha. The Future Buddha: Maitreya, the Next Enlightened One Maitreya Bodhisattva is recognized as the successor to Shakyamuni Buddha. In the future, he will descend into our Saha world to cultivate the Way and become the next Buddha, also known as the “Future Buddha.” He currently resides in the inner court of the Tusita Heaven, where he continues to practice and teach the Dharma. The Historical Origin of the Laughing Maitreya: The Cloth Bag Monk Interestingly, the “Laughing Maitreya” often seen in Chinese temples has a historical origin. During the Five Dynasties period in Zhejiang’s Fenghua region, there lived a chubby monk named Qici. He had a distinctive appearance—short and plump with large earlobes—and was often seen carrying a cloth bag. He would beg for alms and casually toss whatever he received into his bag. He asked for anything he saw, and whatever was given to him, he put in the bag and then gave it all away to others. If someone asked him for a teaching, he would simply drop the bag on the ground—a gesture symbolizing “letting go.” If the person still didn’t understand, he would laugh heartily, pick up his bag, and walk away without another word. A Lesson in Joyful Generosity One day, after giving away everything he had collected, he met someone who asked him for more. The monk replied, “My bag is empty today; I have nothing left.” The person retorted, “But you still have your clothes.” “Oh yes, that’s right!” he laughed and began to take off his robe. Halfway through, he laughed again and said, “Look—everything in this world can be given away, even the clothes on your back. If the giver is joyful and the receiver is joyful, that is true universal joy.” The Transformation of a Monk into a Buddha Image Because Monk Qici was so lovable, people affectionately called him “the Cloth Bag Monk.” He had kind eyes, a wide smile, a bare chest, and a joyful demeanor. Though his speech sometimes sounded incoherent, his words were often full of subtle wisdom. He was also known for accurately predicting fortunes and omens. One day, he sat cross-legged on a rock in front of Yue Lin Temple in Fenghua and recited a verse: Maitreya, true Maitreya,A billion forms you take.Always appearing in this world,Yet people fail to recognize you. After chanting the verse, he passed away peacefully. Reflecting on his words and actions, people believed he was an incarnation of Maitreya Bodhisattva, here to guide beings. Since then, most Chinese temples have portrayed Maitreya Buddha in his likeness—with a big belly, joyful face, and ever-present smile. Why Does Maitreya Always Smile? In Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, an inscription in front of the Maitreya statue offers a clue: “Boundless is the Dharma he reveals—see him now,Bare-chested, open-hearted, he ends it all with a smile.Where did the Flying Peak come from? Who knows?May we all bow our heads in humility, and save all beings.” This poetic couplet suggests that to achieve universal joy, we must learn the Dharma of rejoicing in others’ happiness, practice humility, and always greet the world with a smile. Everyone seeks happiness—this is natural. Yet ironically, some people feel unhappy when they see others joyful. They compare, envy, and fall into sadness: someone else is wealthier, more successful, more talented. Instead of feeling joy, they suffer, and in turn, make others around them suffer too. What’s the point? Smiling as a Practice, Joy as a Way of Life Maitreya’s big belly represents abundance and openness. His entire life is dedicated to one practice: smiling. He teaches the Dharma of universal joy by first embodying kindness and cheerfulness. An old saying goes, “Nine out of ten fat people are wealthy.” But some wealthy people are not fat—they may be burdened by too many worries and too little generosity. Beyond material comfort, we also need spiritual richness: a broad heart that can contain everything. Only with such openness can we truly be happy, and even physically healthy—“a big heart brings a big belly.” Maitreya's smile is sincere and pure. Unlike the smiles of ordinary people, which are often based on pride or self-interest, his smile comes from compassion for others. His joy is not self-centered—it is freely shared with all beings. A Smiling Gatekeeper: The First Step in Cultivation Maitreya sits at the temple gate, welcoming people from all directions with his smile. This tells us that the first step in Buddhist practice is cultivating a joyful heart. A heart that is open and inclusive, that embraces everything, and that generates joy for oneself and others. To Maitreya, everyone is connected to him. His compassion overflows into a smile that never fades. His image reminds us that through joy and a cheerful spirit, we can resolve all difficulties more easily. His smile tells us to open our hearts, face life bravely, and create a harmonious world. We should learn from Maitreya’s joyful, free-spirited example—to benefit all beings joyfully, and through that joy, realize our own spiritual growth. Final Thoughts In Maitreya’s joyful teachings, we’re reminded to smile through life — with an open heart and a generous spirit. Wearing a simple Maitreya pendant can be a quiet way to stay close to that reminder — to carry joy, let go, and meet the world with peace. Is It Correct for Men to Wear Guanyin and Women to Wear Buddha?

Introduction In traditional culture, wearing jade ornaments is not just about beauty; it carries deep symbolic meaning and philosophical ideas. The saying “Men wear Guanyin, and women wear Buddha” is one such cultural tradition, with profound cultural significance behind it. This practice is more than just a simple wearing habit—it is a deep understanding of life, spiritual cultivation, and the harmony of the universe. By exploring the phonetic meanings, yin-yang balance, and spiritual concepts, we can better understand the essence of this cultural practice. 1. Phonetic Symbolism The tradition of "Men wear Guanyin, and women wear Buddha" actually carries a strong phonetic symbolism, as "Guanyin" and "Guan Yin" (official seal) sound similar, while "Buddha" and "fortune" are also homophones. Here, "Guanyin" is associated with the male's prosperous career and success, while "Buddha" symbolizes blessings for women, bringing vast fortune that lasts for generations. Historically, men often traveled far for business, exams, or military service, and their personalities could be more impulsive. Guanyin, often depicted as a female figure, represents compassion and gentleness, symbolizing a hope that men will remain calm, gentle, and composed in difficult situations. Therefore, wearing a Guanyin amulet for men expresses the hope for rationality and calmness in their actions. For women, “wearing Buddha” refers not to Shakyamuni, but to Maitreya Buddha, who is known as the “future Buddha.” Maitreya’s image is often portrayed with a full belly and a smile, representing tolerance and blessings. Ancient people believed that women’s personalities could sometimes be narrow, and Maitreya symbolizes openness and abundance. This encourages women to cultivate an open and peaceful heart, thus creating a harmonious family and life. Maitreya’s saying, “A big belly can accommodate everything, and a smile can bring happiness,” teaches that only through tolerance can family and fortune thrive. 2. The Concept of Yin and Yang The tradition of “Men wear Guanyin, and women wear Buddha” is closely related to the concept of yin and yang in Daoist and I Ching philosophy. In these traditions, men represent the yang, and women represent the yin. Guanyin, as a female deity, embodies yin, while Buddha represents the male, embodying yang. Therefore, the practice of wearing Guanyin for men and Buddha for women is intended to balance the wearer’s yin and yang energies, bringing harmony between the two. Whether it is cultivating one’s character or seeking balance in life, the equilibrium of yin and yang is essential. Only by achieving harmony between the two can the body and mind achieve true unity. This practice of wearing amulets is not just symbolic on the surface but also reflects the deeper cultural aspiration for inner and outer harmony. Both Guanyin and Maitreya Buddha are seen as protective figures that help individuals overcome difficulties and bring peace. Guanyin, as a female figure, represents yin, and Maitreya Buddha, as a male figure, represents yang. Together, they embody the balance of yin and yang, symbolizing harmony in the universe. 3. The Importance of Devotion Although the tradition of “Men wear Guanyin, and women wear Buddha” has been passed down for centuries, it is important to note that Buddhism does not specifically encourage wearing Buddha or deity figures as amulets. Guanyin is a Bodhisattva, and to save all beings, she manifests in different forms, including male and female forms. According to the Shurangama Sutra, Guanyin manifests in 32 different forms to suit the different needs of sentient beings, including male, female, noble, commoner, and even beggars. Therefore, there is no fixed image of Guanyin. The image of Guanyin is subtle and dignified, often seen as female in appearance, but this is not because Guanyin is inherently female. The Bodhisattva manifests in various forms based on the dispositions of sentient beings. The true significance of wearing these amulets lies in spiritual cultivation and personal growth, not the gendered imagery itself. Maitreya Buddha, on the other hand, symbolizes eternal joy, tolerance, and optimism. His joyful smile is meant to bring peace and happiness to those who encounter it. His image is often placed in the main hall of temples, encouraging people to embody the positive qualities of Maitreya, such as compassion and cheerfulness. 4. Wearing Taboo When wearing jade ornaments, whether it is Guanyin or Buddha, it is essential to follow certain guidelines and avoid taboos. The purpose of wearing ornaments is to bring good luck and protection, so it is important to adhere to some principles: Avoid Changing Ornaments FrequentlyThe longer you wear a jade ornament, the more spiritual energy it gathers. Thus, it is essential to avoid changing ornaments frequently. Jade should be worn consistently, and not thrown or placed carelessly. Respect for the ornament is key to its energy and benefits. Don't Wear Ornaments Without ThoughtSome people may casually wear jade ornaments without considering whether they align with their personal energy. Wearing a piece that clashes with one’s energy can bring the opposite of the desired effect. For example, men should wear Guanyin and women should wear Buddha for balance. It is essential not to wear ornaments thoughtlessly, as this can diminish their protective power. Avoid Wearing Broken JadeIt is commonly believed that broken jade absorbs misfortune to protect the wearer. However, once jade is broken, it loses its original protective energy. If it is not repaired, the jade will no longer offer blessings, and wearing broken jade can also pose a risk of injury. Avoid Wearing Someone Else’s JadeJade ornaments have unique energy and symbolism. Wearing someone else’s jade does not provide protection for the wearer but instead may serve to protect the original owner. Therefore, it is better not to wear jade that is not personally yours. 5. How to Choose the Right Ornament Choosing a good jade ornament is not easy. The quality of the carving is crucial. A well-carved Guanyin or Maitreya Buddha brings joy and positive energy to the wearer. Here are some key factors to consider when choosing an ornament: Exquisite CarvingThe most obvious feature of a jade ornament is its carving. A finely crafted ornament brings comfort and joy to the wearer. Poorly carved jade, on the other hand, can make the wearer feel uneasy and uncomfortable. No Flaws on the FaceWhile most jade ornaments may have some natural flaws, it is important that no flaws appear on the face of Guanyin or Maitreya Buddha. Any imperfections here can impact the image and diminish the protective power of the ornament. Clear and Bright ColorThe color of jade should be balanced, bright, and vibrant, giving the ornament a sense of vitality. It should not be too dark or dull, especially for younger wearers, as these colors may feel overwhelming. Conclusion The tradition of “Men wear Guanyin, and women wear Buddha” is more than just a cultural practice—it is a manifestation of the deep philosophical understanding of yin and yang, spiritual protection, and harmony with the universe. By following the guidelines of respectful wearing, understanding the deeper meanings, and choosing the right ornament, we can enhance the positive energies they bring into our lives. Whether you are wearing Guanyin or Maitreya Buddha, it is the intention and devotion that matters most in receiving their blessings and protection.
