Tibet, the remote and mainly-Buddhist territory known as the "roof of the world", is governed as an autonomous region of China. It is a place at the pinnacle of mountains, the source of waters, and the destination of dreams, is the most breathtaking sacred land in our hearts. There, you find the purest faith and the most beautiful smiles, amidst the lingering fragrance of incense and the ever-burning butter lamps. It is a sanctuary far away from the hustle and bustle, a destination coveted by every heart.

For dream seekers, Tibet is the most ancient dreamland; for those who have departed, Tibet is the ultimate recollection; for those who aspire, Tibet is the most constant mystery; for wanderers, Tibet is forever a magical sacred land. Of these places in Tibet that are closest to the divine, how many have you visited? In this post, I will introduce to you several of Tibet's most sacred places in our hearts.

1. Mount Kailash

Mount Kailash, the main peak of the Gangdise Mountains in Tibet, is one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring peaks among the top ten in China. Translating to "Mountain of the God of Snow" in Tibetan, it is also known as the "Summit of Ali." Mount Kailash is recognized by Tibetan Buddhism, Bön, Hinduism, and Jainism as the world center and is hailed as the "King of Sacred Mountains."

2. Potala Palace

In winter, Lhasa lacks the scorching sun and intense ultraviolet rays of summer. Nestled on the world's rooftop, against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains and blue skies, the Potala Palace was initially constructed by Songtsen Gampo of the Tubo Dynasty for the marriage of Princess Wencheng and Princess Bhrikuti. It is the world's highest palace, a magnificent structure combining palaces, castles, and temples, and the most extensive and complete ancient palace complex in Tibet. Pilgrims travel thousands of miles each year to Lhasa to pay homage to the Potala Palace.

3. Mount Qomolangma

Mount Qomolangma, the main peak of the Himalayas, with an elevation of 8844.43 meters, has its north slope in Dingri County, Tibet Autonomous Region, and its south slope in Nepal. It is the world's highest peak. Shaped like a pyramid, Mount Everest is considered the sacred mountain in the eyes of the Tibetan people. A trip to Tibet would be incomplete without witnessing Everest.

4. Nyingchi

In Nyingchi, standing at the 5013-meter-high Mila Mountain Pass, the view is vast and magnificent. Surrounded by continuous mountain ranges and snow-capped peaks, with strong mountain winds blowing and under the blue sky and white clouds, colorful prayer flags flutter and sway between earth and sky.

5. Namtso

Namtso, the world's highest saltwater lake and the foremost among Tibet's three sacred lakes, translates to "Heavenly Lake" in Tibetan. With its broad shoreline, abundant water and grass, stunning and enchanting scenery, clear and spectacular waters, Namtso is like a sapphire embedded in the vast expanse of the Qiangtang Grassland.

6. Guge Kingdom Site

Guge Kingdom Site is situated on a steep and towering mound in Zanda County, Ali Region, Tibet. Its main structures include the White Palace, Red Palace, Dukar Chapel, Great Wisdom Hall, and Assembly Hall. Dating back nearly a thousand years, the Guge Ruins were designated a national key cultural heritage site as early as 1961. It carries the splendid history of the ancient Guge Kingdom, showcasing the former glory of a great nation.

7.Mount Namjagbarwa 

Mount Namjagbarwa is located at the junction of the Himalayas, Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, and the Hengduan Mountains. It is the highest mountain in Nyingchi City, Tibet, with an elevation of 7782 meters, situated at the eastern end of the Himalayas. It is the most ancient sacred site of the "Yongzhong Bön religion" in Tibet, known as the "Father of all Tibetan mountains."
